Debate
The Task
You will become an ecologist. Your job at Nature School will be to study and research the interactions among organisms and their environment in the Inglewood ecosystems. You will be put into two teams. One team will focus strictly on the bird sanctuary, and the other team will focus on the wildlands. Within each team you will be placed into groups of two or three to conduct your research, to create opinion statements, and to argue both sides of the issue through an organized debate with the goal of answering “Should humans repair an ecosystem?”
You will be creating an opinion statement: ________ humans should/should not repair an ecosystem. We recommend that _________________________ because _________________.
Your opinion statements along with your research and arguments will be presented at the first annual O.S. Geiger Eco-Conference.
By the end of this inquiry you will be able to understand and explain in your own words:
1. The importance of ecosystems
2. The importance of protecting ecosystems
3. The impact of natural disasters on ecosystems
4. The impact of humans on ecosystems
